ABOUT

Hi, I'm Kristen. Mom by day and creative wannabe by night. Old Local is the name I've been using for all of my creative business endeavors since 2016 when I first designed and sold the OG Waterton Lakes list t-shirt.

From there I expanded my graphic t-shirt enterprises, selling not one, but TWO new designs in 2017: the Raymond Knight July 1st tee and the Wally's Beach throwback t-shirt.

I'll admit seeing people wearing my t-shirts makes my day! Unfortunately, I haven't designed any new shirts since then, but I get new ideas all the time that beg to be slapped on a tee. Someday...

After a bit of a break, Old Local came back in the form of a "farm stand" at a local market in 2020. My daughters and I sold homemade root beer and raspberry vanilla soda; homemade sour cherry danish pastries and pie filling; lemonade, glass candy, water kefir starters, honey and more!
Life got really busy after this and I just didn't have the time or energy to take on anything creatively. In 2023, my life sort of imploded. I found myself pregnant with my fifth child and living in my parent's basement with my kids after separating from my husband. This forced me to take a step back and really invest in healing the hearts of my children and I. As summer drew closer, I remembered something I had done years ago to document our summer fun - Summer Passports! (Read more about them HERE) I knew I needed to make these again because, despite our heart ache, there really were good things still ahead. But I couldn't find small journals like I had previously used. And making them by hand seemed painful and time consuming.

After summer ended and we drifted into fall and winter, I couldn't stop thinking about how I wished our summer passports had looked. I wished they were smaller and that the pages were already designed. I began exploring the idea of designing some professionally and printing them. After many, MANY late nights, I took a GIANT leap of faith, printing not just a Summer Passport, but a Passport Journal as well. And since passports need stamps, I also designed and printed stamp stickers. (Read more about them HERE)

But why are you called "Old Local?!" Because I love old things and local things. And I aspire to be an old local someday.

Thanks for stopping by!
